Education :: Lecture
Maria Josefa Jaramillo Carson Chautauqua
7:00 PM
Rawlings Library
Description:
Maria Josefa was the third wife of Kit Carson, the famous guide, hunter and military general. Hear the story of a young Hispanic girl from New Mexico who quickly became a woman and fulfilled her destiny as a loyal and faithful wife and mother. Maria's life in the mid 1800s was typical of the lives of many women of her culture in that time period. These women faithfully kept their families together while their husbands were off at work, may times far from home. Portrayed by Dr. Evangeline Sena, who grew up in the San Luis Valley and was drawn to Maria's story because of their Hispanic heritage. Q&A will follow presentation.
