The Renewable Energy Owners Coalition of America (REOCA) began right here in Pueblo on February 20, 2018. Born from a need to protect solar customers from unfair electric rates, the non-profit has grown into a robust 501C(4) whose goal is to help mitigate climate change by promoting and protecting rooftop solar for the economy, the environment, and a sustainable future.

The group has developed into a community resource, offering advice on the right way to go solar, the benefits of electric vehicles, and the state of battery storage.

Keynote Speaker Dr. Scott Denning, Monfort Professor of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University will present: The 3 S’s of Climate Change: Simple. Serious. Solvable.

Simple: Adding CO2 to the air causes the climate to warm for precisely the same reason that putting a pot of water on a hot stove causes the temperature of the water to rise!

Serious: The world will get hotter and hotter until we stop making it hotter by adding CO2 to the air. In a single human lifetime, we can easily warm the climate as much as it warmed in 100 centuries at the end of the last ice age. We’re especially vulnerable to warming here in Colorado because we don’t have a lot of water to spare. The impacts on our people, landscape, economy, and ways of life are totally unacceptable and we must not accept them.

Solvable: We can and will avoid a catastrophic future in just one way — STOP SETTING CARBON ON FIRE! We will do this by living well with less energy and by making energy that doesn’t require combustion. This will also require huge improvements in energy storage and transmission. We will electrify everything. Doing this will cost about as much as replacing billions of landlines with mobile phone service a generation ago, or retrofitting all the world’s great cities with indoor plumbing two generations ago. Building new energy systems will create a huge boom of jobs and prosperity across the world.
