The Week of the Young Child is an annual celebration sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The purpose of the Week of the Young Child is to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families and to recognize early childhood programs and service providers that meet those needs.

Early Childhood Professionals in all human service domains, parents or guardians of young children, and Puebloans interested in the well being of this community’s young children are invited to the Tree of Life Celebration of Children scheduled for 10:00am on Monday,
April 16, 2018, west of the greenhouse in Mineral Palace Park where Week of the Young Child Proclamations will be read by Pueblo City and County elected officials as well as Pueblo’s school district’s respective representatives. Kristen Dees, a Rawlings Library representative, will be the featured guest speaker, and will be speaking about the library’s recent award and reading a book to all children present.

Childcare centers, preschools, and childcare home providers are invited to bring children. They can also bring biodegradable bird feeders. Children will decorate, with the bird feeders, a maple tree dedicated to children in the community, including children who have succumbed to child abuse. The maple tree is surrounded by a flower garden where the community can revive its commitment to all the children in the communities of Pueblo--a commitment to uphold their well being and meet their personal, familial, developmental and early childhood care and education needs.

A Week of the Young Child Fun Fair for all families with young children will be held at no cost on Saturday, April 21, 2018, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The event will be held at Pueblo Community College located at 900 W. Orman Avenue in Pueblo. The Fun Fair will offer hands-on activity booths for children, parent information booths, and entertainment.
