Description:
Speaker Series: Once Upon a Playground
Thursday, April 26, 5:30 p.m., Union Depot, 132 W. B St.
Cost: $25/non-members, $22.50/members. Hors d’oeuvres and beverages provided.
Author talk and presentation by Brenda Biondo, photographer and author of Once Upon a Playground, a celebration of Classic American Playgrounds, 1920-1975.
Memories of childhood, classic metal and wood structures that have populated playgrounds for most of the 20th century — towering metal slides, giant jungle gyms, whirling merry-go-rounds, bouncing seesaws — have become beloved artifacts.
For most Americans over the age of 30, they are parts of personal histories, as well as a tangible piece of the country’s cultural and industrial design heritage. Once Upon a Playground offers a visual tribute to these vanishing playgrounds of our past, celebrating their place in American culture and the collective memories of generations. - excerpt taken from eusa.org.
R.S.V.P. to courtney.woodka@steelworks.us, 719-564-9086, ext. 104.
Sponsored in part by: Rhéaume Family Trust
This is a fundraiser for Bessemer Historical Society, Inc. d.b.a. Steelworks Center of the West, proceeds benefit educational programming at the museum.
