Photographers Learn to Create Images From the Soul
9:00 AM
Mountain Community Mennonite Church Facility
Professional photographer Jeff Johnson will teach area photographers how to create incredible images from the soul in his Saturday, May 20 workshop hosted by the Palmer Divide Photographers Group.

The 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. workshop will be held at the Mountain Community Mennonite Church Facility, 643 Hwy 105, Palmer Lake, and is $79 for pre-registrants by April 15, and $89 after and the workshop is available to a limited number of participants. Registration is at pdphotographers.com.
Johnson, M. Photog., Cr., CPP., Fellow-PPColorado, will spend the morning session "Creating images from your soul - finding your why," and the photographer says, "Sometimes we get so involved in the everyday routine that we simply lose track of why we picked up a camera in the first place."
In this inspirational program Johnson says he will explore some of the reasons why photographer are who you are and if they are realizing their potential as a photographer.
"Are you fulfilling your passion? So many times we lose our direction. It's as if our lives are on autopilot and controlled as if by a puppeteer," he says.
"Discovering the "why" of your life can be beneficial, rewarding and will unlock your potential for living your life and art to its fullest. Becoming aware of why you do the things you do and recognizing if they truly enhance your life and art, is not only important, but it can be mind-blowing as well."
The second half of the workshop is called Post-Processing Magic (Lightroom, Photoshop & Fine Art Demonstration), starting in the afternoon.
Johnson says, "It's in the post-processing of those preciously created images that your why is realized as an instrument for sharing your passion and vision with others. Lightroom and Photoshop and all of those great plug-ins are useful and arguably valuable tools but without your vision and direction for an image you really just have a memory of your own."
He says, "It's not just about learning what these software options can do, it's really more about creating an image that truly speaks your truth about what you were feeling and experiencing when you made the initial exposure. Or simply stated . . . finding your style, not someone else's!"
Meetings hosted by the Palmer Divide Photographers Group, at 7 p.m. the 2nd Monday of each month at Tri Lakes Center for the Arts. There is no cost to join the group, which was organized to promote photography through critiques, seminars and networking.
