First Friday Artist's Reception Description:
First Friday Resumes at The Artists’ Gallery!

Join us at The Artists’ Gallery on First Friday, July 3rd, from 5-8 p.m. as we welcome back our good friends and commemorate our 9-year anniversary! As a memorial to our irreplaceable favorite musician, Tom Gudding, recorded music from his CDs will be playing throughout the evening to celebrate his life and talent. For the time being, no refreshments will be served inside the gallery. Our three Featured Artists are:
Acclaimed local painter and educator, Ken McGowan, surprises us with new work which emphasizes his remarkable versatility of the medium. Ken’s signature surrealistic-style paintings are complemented with more traditional themes and beautifully rendered landscapes. Retired from a 34-year teaching career, he instructs popular art classes designed for adults, sharing his extraordinary expertise and passion. Ken has won numerous awards in juried art shows and has completed many public and private murals.
Jewelry designer, Kathy Pinover, established Of the West Jewelry Design in 2004. Her specialty is crafting exquisitely refined handmade beaded chain, using delicate sterling silver, gold, and copper wire to unite lovely crystals, pearls, and unique stones for her necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. Kathy is inspired by the beauty of nature and humanity, especially the western landscape and the spirit of those who call the west their home. Her new pieces are in celebration of summer in Colorado: quaking aspen, alpine meadows, and patriotic holidays.

Award-winning watercolor artist, Judy Weyenberg, was most influenced and inspired by her very first teacher—her mother, accomplished watercolor artist Enid Andrews. On her love of the medium, Judy ponders, “Watercolor is so versatile; with the choice of color, hard or soft edges and brush strokes, a painting can be quiet or active, reflective or happy, bold or retiring.” She further explains, “When painting, I think very much about the viewer, trying to draw them into the work. I want them to see and feel what I do!” Judy’s luminous landscape paintings and captivating still life studies beguile the viewer with their extraordinary tranquility and beauty!

As we are eager to resume welcoming guests into the gallery, we continue to adhere to the CDC’s social distancing protocols. All guests and artists are required to wear face masks, which are provided for those who do not have one with them. Our talented paper artist, Dakota Rogers, also offers stylish and comfortable “Japanese-Style” fabric face masks for sale. Be reassured that we have your health and safety as our top priority, while you enjoy viewing new pieces of art that many of our member artists have created during the "stay at home" time!

The Artists’ Gallery, 416 Main St., Cañon City, is currently open from 2 to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Additionally, every Thursday until September, we will remain open until 7 p.m. during the Main Street Farmer’s Market (4 to 7 p.m.), for your convenience. Starting in July we hope to resume our normal business hours, opening every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., as COVID-19 conditions allow.
