Judge to Tutor Area Monochrome Photographers Description:
Colorado native and professional photographer Michael Snively, judge for the 2018 Monochrome Show, will teach “Creative Growth through Project Oriented Photography” from 7-9 p.m., Thursday, September 6th. The seminar will be held at the Tri Lakes Center for the Arts, 304 Highway 105, Palmer Lake.

The Judges Seminar is $30, and to register, go to http://www.pdphotographers.com or https://trilakesarts.org. Pre-registration is encouraged as seating is limited.

The Palmer Divide Photographers Group and the Tri-Lakes Center sponsor the seminar for the Arts.

“Photography, at times, seems like so much luck,” Snively says. “Combining the right place with the perfect moment illuminated by a holy light, all backed up by a boatload of technical skills and, if needed, Photoshop. Yet, in the end, ignoring the ‘one-hit-wonders,’ photography is about creative expression and your ability to communicate.”

What Snively will put before photographers in the seminar is a path to creative growth and better understanding.

“I call this path creative growth through project oriented photography,” he says. Snively says he created the program to change the way photographers approach the art, to strengthen their ability to communicate their ideas through their images.

Snively is a firm believer that photographic skills are best learned through mentorship. In addition to his technical skills, he is highly regarded for his emphasis on light and form. You might see him photographing along a streambed or architectural structure with his large format camera. He might ride his bicycle to a shoot, pulling his photo gear in a trailer, giving him more opportunities to connect with his environment.
