Maya New Year Fuego Sagrado
4:30 PM
El Pueblo History Museum
Description:
Every 260 days a new year begins on the Sacred Chol Q’ij, the sacred calendar of the Kiche Maya and is called Wajxaqib’ B’atz or Eight Monkey. This is the first day of the Chol q’ij Calendar and celebrates a new cycle; during this day the Aj Q’ib (Maya Spiritual Guides) and the Maya community join to celebrate with Fire Ceremonies of gratitude to the Ahau (Great Father) and to pray for blessings for this new cycle.
Join this celebration to be held in the Placita at El Pueblo History Museum starting at 4:30 pm on December 6. Suggested offerings to bring include candles, sugar, incense, as offerings and wear White clothing if possible. The Fuego Sagrado will be conducted by Aj Q’ij Eduardo Griego Gonzales Junlajuj B’atz.
You can also join the energy of the day by lighting candles, and by calling out the names of the glyphs and tones or numbers. Request the Nawales or animal spirits join you, call the four elements, Fire, Earth, Air, and Water and call the guardians of the four directions. Open you heart and connect through your energy to the hundreds of Sacred Fire Ceremonies that are lit today in all of the Sacred Mayan Altars throughout Mexico, Guatemala, and Yucatan area of Central America.
